I've walked this path so many times, the sand giving way underfoot, the dunes crowding close on either side, the scrub flickering pink and green in the shifting light. And then the ocean appears, almost without warning, a deep strip of teal steady at the horizon while everything around it moves.

This painting is about that moment of arrival at Ryder Beach on Cape Cod. I wasn't interested in documenting the place so much as distilling the feeling of it; the way the land releases you, the sky unsettled, the sea holding its calm.
