In Naples, there is a tradition of paying for an extra coffee—left “in suspension”—for a stranger to enjoy. This exhibit takes inspiration from that gesture of quiet generosity. Each painting here is like a sospeso, a gift of color and joy suspended in time, waiting for its recipient. My hope is that viewers receive them in the same spirit—with delight, surprise, and connection.
Caffè Sospeso paintings inhabit the rich space between tradition and immediacy. Drawing on the legacies of modern realism and post-impressionist color, the still lifes, landscapes, and figurative scenes embrace both structure and spontaneity.
In these works, moments are not simply recorded—they are suspended, like the offering of a coffee left for a stranger: an ordinary table becomes a vessel of memory and intimacy, a hillside unfurls in radiant light charged with longing, a gathering of people swells with the warmth of shared joy. The paintings become small acts of generosity, fragments of daily life distilled into compositions that are at once timeless and contemporary, lyrical yet grounded in observation.
Caffè Sospeso situates the act of painting as a gesture of solidarity and revelation—a way of seeing anew, of sharing beauty, and of transforming the fleeting into lasting form.
