Tatjana is delighted to announce a milestone in her work as an artisit - the first exhibition of a series of abstract expressionist landscape paintings. For Tatjana this works represents not so much a departure from the impressionistic depictions of everyday life for which she is known, but a step toward the essential. Observation of life's fascinating array of color, form, movement and moment have always fueled her work. With this new body of work, entitled "Koan", Tatjana looks deeper into the perceptual process and travels to a more intimate and personal territory in response to the seen world. Please enjoy a PREVIEW of the show and attend the opening if you are in town.

In this series of dreamy, loosely painted works, Tatjana takes us back to the sun drenched sea side towns of her childhood in Istria, Croatia. Looking at this work you feel you are peering intimately into someone's visual diary of a summer spent enjoying color, light, meals and conversation with friends, and the everyday beauty that distinguishes Istria as one of the last remaining European fairy tale lands.
KOAN An exhibition of oil paintings on canvas and gouache
on paper
April 3rd ‚ May 15th 2009 Artist's talk and reception April 19th 2009 3 - 5 p.m.
This new series of abstract expressionist paintings draws on the landscape
of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Krizmanic chose the title
for this series inspired by the traditional zen practice of koan - an
unanswerable question - which mirrors the artist's own inquiry into a
more open artistic expression. All of the works in this series contain
in them an open question about the nature of perception and our response to what we see.
Overall, this retreat from the representational work for which Tatjana
is known has provided space for a more liberated expression, free of containment.
The bold shapes and colors are unmistakably Krizmanic, while the unbounded
quality of the compositions is a movement toward a more raw and immediate form of expression.
October 17- November 18, 2008 Opening and artist's presentation: October
17th 4-7p.m.
"Journeys" brings a sweeping collection of new work by Tatjana Krizmanic
to B. Deemer Gallery, October 17 to November 18 2008. Tatjana's cheerful
market scenes depict the bustle and abundance of a European, and now often
American, Sunday morning tradition, where the market is both a celebration
of the harvest and a social occasion. Café vignettes capture the intimacy
and anonymity of café life, where we are all observers as we look
out the window to passers-by, or at a couple sitting across from us. These
works have a casual familiarity, and they speak of a delight found in
taking time off, in joining with our friends and fellow city-dwellers
in the simple pleasures of life. Like a breath of fresh air, and with
a hint of the unknown, the exhibit offers a broad selection of whimsical
landscapes and seascapes which transport us to the fields and shores of
Tatjana's native Europe. These playful renditions feature interpretive
colors and shapes reminiscent of French post-impressionism, where hue
and texture express emotion and experience. Tatjana displays her own unique
vocabulary of forms, marks and palette in these works that results in
a kind of poetry: we are told of the sea as glimpsed when looking past
local trees and flowers, or of an unfolding pattern of fields and farmhouses
reaching into the distance. In all we find, as in her urban work, a reminder
of life's variety and subtlety, observed with appreciation and joy.

The Light in the Air
August 16th - October 2008
Tatjana Krizmanic brings the sea and sky, dune and brush, water's edge, and fishing town's narrow streets to life in her recent show of Cape Cod inspired work, "The Light in the Air". In this new body of pastels and oils, Tatjana introduces a more subtle palette of colors and hues. When applied to familiar landscapes, these unusual color choices and formal arrangements result in an interpretive realism: the works describe the emotion and imagination that arise in the artist's own experienceóa sense of poetry found in ordinary places. They capture Cape Cod's distinctly dream - like quality. Anyone accustomed to Tatjana's style will find in this new body of work a greater presence of the artist's inner world, released on canvas and paper with skillful abandon.
In this collection of works Tatjana pays homage to the landscapes of Cape Cod and her native Istria, interspersed with spirited scenes of human enjoyment. She sees this book as a dance of color and emotion and hopes you will enjoy these windows on love, hope, appreciation and the fire of the human spirit throughout the year.
In this collection of works Tatjana pays homage to some of the worlds
greatest poets, whose words resonate with her own experience.
Surreal and inventive, her work combines the optimism of America with the more reflective pace of Europe. Not burdened by the need for painterly formalism, her consistent theme is the expression of joy, which infuses her unforgettable figures and landscapes. She sees this book as a dance, or partnership, and hopes you will enjoy these windows on love, longing, hope, appreciation and the fire of the human spirit.
Tatjana Krizmanic Studio is pleased to announce a specially
produced monograph of Tatjana's paintings - 70 pages of exquisite color
reproductions spanning the last decade of her work. The book, splendidly
designed by Vermilion
Design of Boulder, CO was recently released worldwide. In celebration
of the release we are offering a limited edition 30" X 40" gicleé
print of "Winter Joy", one of the images from the book.
